The World of Mystics

This is a terms page for anything that you might come across in The Last Knight™ in regards to the series.

Mystics: Immortal beings that possess some type of a magical power. They are not all members of the Tuatha De Danann; yet members of the Tuatha De Danann are considered mystics.

Avalon/Annwnn: The Otherworld and homeland of the Tuatha De Danann. It has one earthly entrance; the only other way of getting there is teleportation.

The Tuatha De Danann: Translates to Children of Magic in The Last Knight world; these are the mystical people who serve the Mystic King Oberon.

Wizard: A male Magi capable of living a long ageless life with immense power to cast spells and control the elements; he's more powerful as he gets older.

Witch: A female Magi capable of living a long ageless life with immense power to cast spells and control the elements; she's more powerful as she gets older.

Changeling: A sprite with limited shape-shifting ability and teleportation. No one knows where they come from as of yet; but they are complex in nature and often hard to take seriously. However, they are also the most endangered and likely to be attacked by witch-hunters (especially pregnant females). Their gestation usually lasts 100 years.

Magi: The term used for witches and wizards when speaking in generic, non-sex-specific terms. They have the power to control the elements and cast spells.

Nymphs: An all-female race of sprites that come in all shapes and sizes and are the protectors of Nature. They are usually naked. They are also rarer than Changelings and mostly live in Avalon these days because of their fear of humans.

Faeries: Little pixies that have healing dust in their wings. Again, they only live in Avalon because of their fear of humans. They are an all-female race and only 3 inches tall.

Goblins: Sophisticated shape-shifters that rarely falter in their changing ability and are gifted by Oberon into being what is known as True Immortals.

True Immortals: Mystics and others that can never die, not by age, not by disease, and certainly not through murder. Goblins and The Mystic King Oberon are examples of True Immortals.

Faerie-children: Hybrid spawn of changelings and animals. They usually look like their animal parents, but have the immortality and limited shape-shifting abilities of their changeling parents.

Ageless Immortals: Immortal mystics that can never die by aging or disease. Wizards and changelings are examples of Ageless Immortals.

Seven Swords of Virtue: The Seven are as follows: Justice, Purity, Wisdom, Might, Courage, Love, and Peace. These swords are considered the formidable weapons forged by wizard swordsmiths.

The Sword of Purity: Also known as The Sword of Corbainious, this sword is very picky about who is able to wield it; you must be of the clan MacLyle and you must be pure in goodness. This sword hates evil intentions and enchanted water. It purifies evil by destroying it and has a symbiotic relationship with its wielder. It also has a semi-sentience all of in itself.

Excalibur: The mystical Sword of Justice that comes from Arthurian legend. It is the fraternal twin of the Sword of Corbainious and is currently being kept by the Lady of the Lake.

Clan MacLyle: An Irish warrior clan descended from a knight named Sir Lyle, who migrated from what is now England to what is now Belfast and the first host body to the Sword of Corbainious. They are mortal humans blessed with longevity, natural goodness in heart, and efficient healing of body. The Castle MacLyle had been stolen out from the family by none other than Sean O'Reilly , Sr., father of Brian MacLyle, who is the current host and wielder of the Sword of Corbainious. Brian's mission is to win back the property for the Clan MacLyle, rescue his mother, and protect the secrets of the castle itself from the Fellowship of the Martyr.

Banshees: Irish female spirits that wail whenever someone dies. Also spelled Bean Sidhe. Some are good, others are evil. They are mystical, but yet are not followers of Oberon.

Fellowship of the Martyr: An extremely right-wing mens only secret Roman Catholic organization that makes Opus Dei look liberal in comparison. The spiritual head of their Irish branch is Father Dougal and the militant head was Sean O'Reilly, Sr. They seek to rid the world of heretics, put women back in the kitchen (barefoot and pregnant), and seeking out the one they believe is the reincarnation of Jesus in order to legitimatize their stakes. They are a living menace to the Tuatha De Danann, in that the mystics are seen as vile creatures of the Devil that must be destroyed. They are not, however, endorsed by the Vatican, by reasons that they are "too extreme" in their beliefs; hence why Father Dougal was never upgraded from a lowly priest to anything higher. (Members will also be appearing in The Reptilia, so stay tuned for that!)

The Ancients: Wizards and witches who have lived more than two-thousand years. They are very wise and powerful; the Fellowship is too cowardly to go against them; instead they go after the youngest and weakest mystics. The Ancients, although powerful, are very few, in fact, only five such wizards (and one witch) are still around. Corbainious Advargos is one of The Ancients, being around two-thousand five hundred years old.

FAQs

Is this series going to end soon?

What? It's only being started (well...the comics anyways :x). But seriously, it will be a long time before it's complete. We are currently in The Path to Healing arc.

Who are the Tuatha De Danann?

If you're talking about Irish mythology, then they were a group of Irish gods who defeated ugly sea gods called Fomorii, and were, in turn, defeated by a group of people called Milesians, and were forced to live in otherworld realms.  They were later turned into leprechauns.  But if you’re talking about The Last Knight version, then they are a tribe of mystical beings that consists of faeries, nymphs, goblins, changelings, faerie-children, and sorceries, and Oberon and Titania rule them.

Is this anything like Harry Potter?

Aside from the subjects of magic, I would have to say no.  The Last Knight is not meant for a young audience.  It has elements of sexuality, some bad language, and even death and violence.  It's meant to be a faerie tale in its purest form; no edits are made.  Even elements of mythology aren't all that pretty.  I wanted to be as realistic and true to myth as possible when I wrote this, and yes, that includes the ugly things sometimes. (And, yes, people have actually asked me this.) Although, it can be argued that Harry Potter also has death in it, it's not as simple as an Avada Kedavra curse. :P

In Northern Ireland, fundamentalists in secret societies threaten the very existence of the Tuatha De Danann, a tribe of benevolent mystical beings that have aided the people since the days before St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. Sprites, such as nymphs and changelings and young wizards being the favorite target of the likes of the wicked priest Father Dougal. Three young people must battle to save the mystics from themselves and the ones who persecute them.
